Canadian economic accounts, first quarter and March 2010
Real gross domestic product (GDP) increased 1.5% in the first quarter of 2010, after growing 1.2% in the fourth quarter of 2009. Final domestic demand advanced 1.1% as spending on housing as well as consumer goods and services continued to grow. Real GDP increased 0.6% in March, a seventh consecutive monthly advance. Industrial product and raw materials price indexes, April 2010
The Industrial Product Price Index increased 0.3% in April, mainly as a result of higher prices for primary metal products. The Raw Materials Price Index rose 1.7%, largely led by higher prices for mineral fuels, particularly crude oil.
