OTTAWA, May 5, 2010 – The Joint Review Panel for the Darlington New Nuclear Power Plant Project invites the public to attend information sessions to be held in the project area as follows:
The objective of the information sessions is to provide members of the public, Aboriginal groups, governments and other interested parties an opportunity to hear about the joint review, the Panel’s role and mandate and how to participate in the process.
The Secretariat for the Joint Review Panel will make short presentations at each session and will answer questions relating to the joint review panel process. The Panel members will not be attending these sessions.
The Joint Review Panel initiated a public review and comment period on the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Licence to Prepare a Site (LTPS) application in November 2009. The end date of the comment period, which was originally scheduled for May 2010, will now be extended as a result of the Panel’s requests for additional information from Ontario Power Generation Inc.
Participants are reminded that all information in relation to the review including the additional information from the proponent is available on the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency Web site, public registry #07-05-29525.
The public is also reminded that it may continue to submit comments on the EIS and the LTPS application to either of the addresses below. Please forward comments by mail, e-mail or fax to the attention of:

The project is a proposal by Ontario Power Generation Inc. for the site preparation, construction, operation, decommissioning and abandonment of up to four new nuclear reactors at its existing Darlington Nuclear site located near Oshawa along the north shore of Lake Ontario, in the Municipality of Clarington. The project is expected to generate approximately 4800 megawatts of electricity for delivery to the Ontario grid.
The Joint Review Panel for the Darlington New Nuclear Power Plant Project is an independent body, mandated by the Minister of the Environment and the President of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission to assess the environmental effects of the proposed project and review the Application for a Licence to Prepare a Site.
