LA DURANTAYE, Quebec, May 28, 2010 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Steven Blaney, Member of Parliament (Lévis-Bellechasse), today announced funding for the Comité du 100e de La Durantaye for its cultural component.
With more than forty artists and activities taking place over four days, the citizens of La Durantaye will have the chance to remember the moments that shaped their community.
A variety of events, including two expositions and several street shows, will provide entertainment for the whole family. The festival will take place from July 15 to 18, 2010.
"Our Government is proud to be part of festivals like this one, which celebrate communities and their history," said Minister Moore. "These activities increase the participation of citizens in their community and allow local creators to pass on their rich heritage to the population."
"La Durantaye's centennial is a historic moment for its citizens and deserves to be celebrated by everyone," said Mr. Blaney. "The commemoration will be an opportunity to discover and share in the cultural heritage of this welcoming little village, which has contributed to the development of the Bellechasse region."
"The members of the Comité du 100e de La Durantaye are pleased to count the Government of Canada among its partners," said Yvon Dumont, President of the Comité du 100e de La Durantaye.
The Comité du 100e de La Durantaye's mandate is to offer activities showcasing the founding of the parish in 1910. The festivities will highlight the cultural heritage of the community through artistic and cultural performances.
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $9,200 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
