FORT MCMURRAY, Alberta, May 11, 2010 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Brian Jean, Member of Parliament (Fort McMurray-Athabasca), today announced funding for the Keyano Theatre.
This funding will support the 2010-2011 Syncrude Arts Alive Series, which consists of 19 performances at Keyano College's Arts Centre in Fort McMurray from September 2010 to June 2011. Artists from across Canada will light up Keyano Theatre's two stages with comedy, dance, and concerts of country, classical, rock, and world music. As part of this season's outreach, three shows will be specifically targeted to children and families, and local students will be able to participate in master classes with artists.
"Our Government recognizes the importance of arts and culture in our society," said Minister Moore. "With its presentation series, Keyano Theatre is helping ensure that the performing arts will continue to thrive for generations to come and will, in turn, contribute to the cultural and economic vitality of the community."

Now is in its 31st season, Keyano Theatre remains committed to ensuring that Canadian professional artists reach local audiences. The Syncrude Arts Alive Series has a mandate to present concerts, events, and other programming that fosters appreciation and accessibility to the performing arts in the community of Fort McMurray, Alberta.
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $28,000 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
