MONTRÉAL, May 3, 2010 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Natural Resources and Minister responsible for Montréal, today announced funding for an upgrade of the multimedia hall at Pointe-à-Callière, the Montréal Museum of Archaeology and History.
The funding will allow the Museum to replace specialized equipment in the multimedia hall in order to make it more versatile and accessible. The country's only major archaeology museum, Pointe-à-Callière will be able to help visitors explore key moments in the history of Montréal and Canada, in an environment on the cutting edge of technology. Further, the Museum will be able to maintain its expertise in using new technologies in the presentation of archeological and historical content.
"Our Government is aware that the arts and culture make our communities more vibrant," said Minister Moore. "This is why we are investing in projects that create more attractive facilities for presenting our culture and history, and at the same time, stimulate Canada's economy."
"We are proud to invest in the Pointe-à-Callière Museum, which will enable thousands of visitors to discover our history through a multimedia show making use of today's technologies," said Minister Paradis. "In addition, by replacing its equipment the Museum will be able to provide more varied presentations."
The Government of Canada has provided $500,000 under the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund . This program of the Department of Canadian Heritage helps to improve physical conditions for artistic creativity and arts presentation or exhibition. It also seeks to increase access for Canadians to performing, visual and media arts, and to museum collections and heritage displays.
