LLOYDMINSTER, Alberta, May 18, 2010 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Leon Benoit, Member of Parliament (Vegreville-Wainwright), today announced funding for the Vic Juba Community Theatre.
This funding will help the Vic Juba Community Theatre present its annual Dr. H.A. McDonald Series. The series features 15 acts from six Canadian provinces representing a diverse cross-section of artistic expressions including ballet, opera, theatre, cabaret dance, comedy, jazz, folk, country rock, and children's entertainers. The season runs from January 1 to December 31, 2010, at the Vic Juba Community Theatre in Lloydminster, Alberta.
"The Government of Canada recognizes the importance of supporting arts and culture at the community level," said Minister Moore. "The Vic Juba Community Theatre is an important presenter of professional theatre in Lloydminster."
"This Theatre provides our community with access to some of the best in new Canadian theatre and enriches the cultural experiences of our youth through workshops and other outreach activities," said Mr. Benoit.
"With the assistance of Canadian Heritage, Vic Juba Community Theatre will feature performances by Canadian artists in live theatre, music, and dance," said Gwen Mottram, Treasurer for the Vic Juba Community Theatre Board. "We appreciate Canadian Heritage's commitment to and support of our organization's goal to present diverse programming to Lloydminster and the region. This funding is essential, and it will ensure the arts scene thrives in our community."
Established in 2002, the Vic Juba Community Theatre aims to present diverse programming while promoting the arts as an essential component of community life. The Theatre hosts over 160 events every year and is managed by a non-profit organization.
The Government of Canada has provided $18,000 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund (formerly Arts Presentation Canada program) of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
