For immediate release
GATINEAU, Quebec, May 27, 2010 – Public Works and Government Services Canada wishes to advise the public that, due to the low water level on Kipawa Lake, individuals operating watercraft should exercise extreme caution to avoid hazards such as rocks that would normally be submerged.
Record low precipitation during the past winter and spring has prevented the refilling of Kipawa Lake. Consequently, lower than normal flows are also expected on the Kipawa River. The outflow at the Laniel Dam on the Kipawa River is presently at the minimum flow to maintain fish habitat. Unless we receive significant rainfall, Public Works and Government Services Canada aims to maintain this flow for most of the summer.
