OTTAWA — As spring turns into the warm months of summer, Canadians are encouraged to remember that from east to west, it is also the season for forest fires. Again this year, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) will be providing timely and accurate forest fire information — for all of Canada — whenever you need it.
Stay informed over the coming months by visiting the Forest Fire in Canada Web site at http://fire.cfs.nrcan.gc.ca/home-accueil-eng.php. There you will find useful information and easy-to-use tools, including:
- current fire locations and fire conditions, monitored daily by the Canadian Wildland Fire Information System;
- fire statistics and fire danger forecasts, summarized weekly in the National Wildland Fire Situation Report;
- locations of fires close to a community in your area, shown on a near-real-time interactive map;
- images of larger forest fires, captured by periodic satellites; and
- quick access to provincial and territorial fire agencies.
You can also use the site to learn about forest fire facts. For example, did you know that the amount of snowfall during the winter can indicate how dry forests may be at the start of a fire season, but that the fire conditions usually change after spring rains?
