I am very pleased to announce that Deputy Commissioner Rod Knecht, currently Deputy Commissioner for the Northwest Region and Commanding Officer of 'K' Division, has agreed to assume the responsibilities of Senior Deputy Commissioner, on the upcoming retirement of Senior Deputy Commissioner Bill Sweeney effective July 1st.
In his important new role, Deputy Knecht's broad experience in both federal and contract policing will no doubt significantly contribute to the ongoing operations of the Force and to our continuing commitment to work to achieve our Vision for Change for the RCMP to be an adaptive, accountable, trusted organization of fully engaged employees demonstrating outstanding leadership and providing world-class police services.
I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Senior Deputy Sweeney for his leadership and many contributions to the Force throughout his distinguished career over more than 35 years. I would also like to thank Bill for his exceptional leadership and support over the past three years.
Bill has played a key role in the overall management of the Force and in numerous specific area, including for example in relation to the 2010 Winter Olympics and the upcoming G8\G20 meetings as well as a number of significant transformation initiatives.
