Saint-Alexis-des-Monts, Quebec, May 27, 2010 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $300,000 in repayable funding to tourism enterprise Les Chalets de la rivière Sacacomie Inc. for the construction of six high-end rental chalets. This project is calling for a total investment of $1.4 million. Furthermore, two permanent jobs and the equivalent of 10 indirect jobs during the construction period should be created.
Established in 2008, this young firm currently offers its customers two chalets situated in a picturesque natural setting. The addition of new units will help meet a growing demand for this type of lodging and accommodate more international tourists, especially Americans and Europeans.
“Over the years, the Saint-Alexis-des-Monts region has become an international tourism magnet thanks in part to its reputed tourist establishments. Today’s announcement will help strengthen the economic spin-offs associated with an industry segment that is experiencing strong growth globally, namely nature, adventure and outdoor tourism,” explained Minister of State Lebel.
Canada Economic Development’s contribution has been awarded through the Community Diversification program, whose objective is to help Quebec regions in their efforts to maintain and develop their economic base.
Tourism is a priority of action for Canada Economic Development’s Mauricie Business Office, not only because of the economic benefits it generates but also because it is an important asset to diversifying the region’s economy.
