His Excellency Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations, will be visiting Canada on May 12, 2010, to meet with Canada's Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Stephen Harper.
In addition, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will pay a courtesy call on Governor General Michaëlle Jean and will meet with the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of International Cooperation, and the Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance.

Canada has a long and proud history of engagement and tangible contributions to the UN and its activities, particularly in Afghanistan, Haiti and Sudan. The visit of the Secretary-General is an opportunity for Canada to reaffirm our commitment to the UN and recognize its central role in promoting peaceful relations and a stable, prosperous world."
Prime Minister Harper will meet with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Ottawa to discuss a range of global issues and international initiatives, with particular focus on G-8 and G-20 Summits that Canada will host in June.
Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will also be recognized in Parliament and is scheduled to attend a reception hosted by the Honourable Noel A. Kinsella, Speaker of the Senate.
