OTTAWA, June 28, 2010 - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, last Wednesday announced the appointment of Jim Silye as Vice-Chairperson of the Canada Science and Technology Museum Board of Trustees.
"I am pleased that Mr. Silye has accepted to serve on the Board of Trustees," said Minister Moore. "His extensive management experience and leadership skills will be very valuable to the Board."
Mr. Silye is an entrepreneur and a businessman with more than 30 years of experience in a variety of fields, including the oil and gas industry, travel, real-estate development, and printing. He is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of Eagle Rock Exploration, a publicly traded energy company he founded in 2005 in Calgary, Alberta. He is also President of Tyme Holdings Inc., a personal, private venture-capital company with a diversified portfolio, as well as the founding director of Webber Academy, a private school. Mr. Silye was Director, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Predator Exploration and of SYNSORB Biotech. Over the years, he has been the founding director of a number of Calgary-based public and private companies such as Scout Capital, Command Drilling, Stampeder Exploration, and Request Seismic Surveys. Furthermore, Mr. Silye has been the President of Calwest Printing and Reproductions and Western Seismic Exchange.
Mr. Silye has been actively involved in his community with sport organizations and sport-related boards. He was Head Coach of the Calgary Mohawks Junior Football, and Chairman and President of the Calgary Stampeder Football Club, which led to his becoming a member of the Board of Governors of the Canadian Football League. He has also acted as Treasurer for the Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists and as a fundraiser for the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mr. Silye holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Ottawa.
