The Montrose Community League is moving forward with the redevelopment of Montrose Park thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“The Montrose Park redevelopment project is creating immediate jobs while providing local families with an upgraded and modern park to enjoy for many years to come,” said Peter Goldring, Member of Parliament for Edmonton East, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
Upon completion of the project, Montrose Park will feature a new playground, a spray deck for an outdoor water park, walking trails, benches and tables. A professionally landscaped area for gatherings and special events will also be added to the park. The project will attract more families to the park where they can utilize the venue for physical activity and entertainment purposes.
“This investment in Montrose Park will have many benefits for people of all ages in the community, providing a space where people can connect with each other in a safe and social environment,” said Edmonton City Councillor Ed Gibbons.
Federal funding of $290,231 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The City of Edmonton is also investing $533,661 towards project costs.
“Montrose playground is well used by the young families in this area,” said Howard Weir, Project Coordinator for Playground Redevelopment. “With this project we hope to attract even more young families to help make this an active community once again. Thanks to the funding made available, this will happen.”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. In total, Western Economic Diversification Canada has approved 718 RInC projects that will use all of the funding available in the West. These projects are helping provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
