The Corporation of Delta has successfully completed upgrades to the Sunshine Hills Tennis Club, thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“With projects like this, our Government has created employment in our communities while supporting the health and fitness of Canadians,” said Nina Grewal, Member of Parliament for Fleetwood-Port Kells, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
The Sunshine Hills Tennis Club received funding to refurbish its four lower tennis courts with new asphalt pavement, lighting and root barriers. The tennis nets and an existing retaining wall were also replaced.
Funding of $82,400 was provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“This is an exciting investment in our community’s recreation infrastructure and a great way to encourage our residents to join the newly revitalized Sunshine Hills Tennis Club,” said Mayor Lois E. Jackson, Corporation of Delta. “This project is taking another step in the right direction towards promoting an active lifestyle.”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. In total, Western Economic Diversification Canada has approved 718 RInC projects that will use all of the funding available in the West. These projects are helping provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
