Prime Minister Stephen Harper called Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews this afternoon to congratulate him and his team on their "tremendous" victory over the Philadelphia Flyers in this year's Stanley Cup Finals.
Prime Minister Harper congratulated Jonathan for winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as Most Valuable Player in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and for winning a gold medal at this year's winter Olympics as part of the Canadian Men's Olympic Hockey team.
Mr. Toews thanked the Prime Minister for his call and said that it was a "pretty special time" in his life and that it was "great to have the support of people like yourself" - and of all Canadians - during the Olympics.
Prime Minister Harper also asked Jonathan to share his message of congratulations with the entire Blackhawks team.
The Prime Minister ended the call by saying that Jonathan "should enjoy this moment" and get some well-deserved rest during the summer.
