Grand Bank, Newfoundland and Labrador
The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, today announced a $300,000 investment in Dynamic Air Shelters of Grand Bank to help the company undertake further research and development, engineering and marketing initiatives.
“Our Government’s support will help Dynamic Air Shelters implement a new market development strategy and assist the company to complete further research and development work to improve its blast resistant shelter,” said Minister Ashfield. “By supporting research, development and innovation we enhance the competitiveness of Atlantic Canadian companies in the global marketplace.”
Dynamic Air Shelters manufactures air inflatable structures for four distinct markets - the oil and gas industry, the construction industry, the promotional sector, and emergency and first responder operations. Their products have been used around the world, including the recent emergency response activities in Haiti.
“Our company will be finishing our ‘frag curtain’ R&D which has the potential to open up the military market to us,” said company president Harold Warner. “We will also complete the design and engineering of our testing facility that will allow us to do quality control testing on site and indoors. We will also use this opportunity to implement a new market development strategy, focused on developing opportunities in the military market.”
The structures are manufactured in the company's plant in Grand Bank. The company, which currently has more than 80 employees, is expected to increase its workforce to 130 at peak times once the project is completed.
