OTTAWA (June 15, 2010) - Musicians say music soothes the soul; health researchers believe music heals the sick. There's a growing field of health care professionals who use melodies to promote relaxation, treat depression, and relieve anxiety and stress. Music therapy is also used to improve coordination skills, enhance the well-being of people who suffer from Alzheimer's and dementia, help hearing and speech problems, and complement the treatment of cancer and neurological disorders.
In light of Music Day (June 21), experts from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) are available to discuss the impact of music on people's health.
