Saint-Henri-de-Taillon, Quebec, June 30, 2010 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $90,500 in repayable funding to Camping Belley Ltd for the addition of 26 new sites to its campground for touring cyclists. Requiring a total investment of $181,000, this project will help strengthen the regional tourism offering associated with the Véloroute des Bleuets bike route.
"By adding these new sites, Camping Belley will be better able to meet some of the growing demand for lodging for cyclists while encouraging these tourists to stay longer in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region. Moreover, expanding the site's accommodation capacity will lead to the creation of four jobs, one of them a direct result of the increase in clientele at the campground. In short, this project will generate economic vitality in the community of Saint-Henri-de-Taillon," explained the Minister of State.
This financial assistance from the Government of Canada has been granted through the Community Adjustment Fund established under Canada's Economic Action Plan, a measure adopted in January 2009 to mitigate the impacts of the economic downturn, stimulate job creation and address the transitional and adjustment challenges facing communities and industries in the process of restructuring.
"Thanks to the special measures contained in Canada's Economic Action Plan, our national economy is starting to recover. Implementation of Phase II of this plan will help further lay the foundations for solid long-term economic growth and job creation," he concluded.
