Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba, June 22, 2010 — Today the Honourable Stan Struthers, Minister of Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives and MLA for Dauphin-Roblin, and Inky Mark, Member of Parliament for Dauphin-Swan River-Marquette, joined René Maillard, Town of Ste. Rose du Lac Mayor, and Maurice Maguet, Rural Municipality of Ste. Rose Reeve for a sod turning ceremony to officially launch the Town of Ste. Rose du Lac Community Revitalization project and the RM of Ste. Rose’s Water Distribution Line project.
“Expanding the supply of quality drinking water for the municipality builds on our government’s ongoing commitment to provide safe, clean drinking water for future generations of Manitobans,” said Minister Struthers. “This investment in revitalizing the town’s main street and improving water services will also create construction jobs and stimulate economic development, which have been the focus of this government.”
“Our government understands that we need to invest in quality infrastructure and new technologies to grow strong communities, foster economic development and improve the quality of life of local residents,” said MP Mark. “Our government is delivering on our commitment to support infrastructure investments that help create jobs, stimulate the economy and build sustainable communities.”
The town of Ste. Rose du Lac’s project involves the revitalization of the town’s main street with the installation of storm sewers and lighting, and the construction of new curbs and sidewalks. The Rural Municipality of Ste. Rose will benefit from the expansion of water distribution supply lines and provide additional homes with quality drinking water.
These projects are made possible through two joint investments by the governments of Canada and Manitoba: $953,334 under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund for the Ste. Rose du Lac Community Revitalization, and $257,172 under the Building Canada Fund–Communities Component for the RM of Ste. Rose’s Water Distribution Line. Both projects will benefit the community of Ste. Rose by promoting rural sustainability and increasing potential for economic development.
“The fact that the Town of Ste. Rose du Lac is undertaking a project to enhance our main street is uplifting to our residents and will benefit our overall community,” said Mayor Maillard. “We are grateful for the funding we are receiving from the Government of Canada and the Province of Manitoba allowing us to move forward with this Community Revitalization project.”
“Up until now, the rural households not serviced by the current water line had to haul-in their own water or access a substandard water supply,” said Reeve Maguet. “As a result of the support received from the Government of Canada and the Province of Manitoba for the Water Distribution line project, these residents will finally have access to a water system that will provide them with cleaner, purer and safer drinking water.”
