Laval, Quebec, June 9, 2010 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, announced $291,012 in repayable funding to JECC Mécanique Ltd. through the Community Adjustment Fund to acquire specialized equipment and thereby increase its productivity.
Specializing in the design, custom-manufacture and modification of equipment for the dry material (plastics and wood) recycling industry as well as in industrial machine maintenance, JECC Mécanique Ltd. is subject to strict standards. The company has earned an excellent international reputation for the quality of its production.
This financial assistance will enable JECC Mécanique Ltd. to diversify its products, manufacture more of them and expand by 13,000 square metres the shop in which it manufactures repetitive complex parts of all sizes and materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, aluminum, and cast iron. By improving its productivity, the company expects to maintain competitiveness while broadening its client base.
"In addition to the five new jobs associated with the plant expansion, JECC Mécanique Ltd.'s project will result in the creation of 15 sustainable jobs within the company itself. This is excellent news for the Matawinie RCM, particularly for Saint-Michel-des-Saints, whose economy has been hard hit by the economic downturn. Small and medium-sized businesses, like JECC Mécanique Ltd., that build their growth on a foundation of innovation and value-added activities, have always been a driving force of the Canadian economy. It is for this reason that Canada Economic Development believes it is important to lend its financial assistance to this regional enterprise, which stands out for its creativity and the quality of its products," explained the Minister of State.
This federal financial contribution has been awarded through the Community Adjustment Fund established under Canada's Economic Action Plan, a measure adopted in January 2009 to counteract the impacts of economic downturn, stimulate job creation and address the transition and adjustment challenges facing communities and industries undergoing restructuring.
"With the assistance of the special measures provided for under Canada's Economic Action Plan, our national economy is starting to recover. Implementation of Phase II of this plan will help further lay the foundations for solid long-term economic growth and job creation," the Minister of State concluded.
