OTTAWA, June 21, 2010 — The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), today announced the appointment of Michel Kelly-Gagnon to the Foundation’s Board of Directors.
“Mr. Kelly-Gagnon’s experience in leading a highly influential public policy think tank and growing a business advocacy group from the ground up will add valuable insight to the Board. I am pleased to welcome him to the CFI’s Board of Directors,” said Minister Clement.
Mr. Kelly-Gagnon is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Montreal Economic Institute, recognized as one of the world’s leading think tanks. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Youth Business Foundation and the John Dobson Foundation, which supports entrepreneurship and free markets.
Mr. Kelly-Gagnon is a graduate of the Université de Montréal law school and was admitted to the Bar of Québec in 1994. He has been admitted to McGill University’s Executive MBA program and will begin his studies in September.
The CFI is an independent corporation created by the Government of Canada to fund research and infrastructure. The Foundation’s mandate is to strengthen the capacity of Canadian universities, colleges, research hospitals and not-for-profit research institutions to carry out world-class research and technology development that benefits Canadians.
