OTTAWA—Following a major rehabilitation project carried out by the National Capital Commission (NCC), the Tent Room at Rideau Hall, the governor general’s official residence in Ottawa, will be reopening this week. To mark the occasion, a private concert will be held on June 18, at 8 p.m., featuring musicians from the NAC Summer Music Institute. In attendance will be the Order of Canada recipients who were invested earlier in the day.
The National Capital Commission will hold an information session on June 18, at 2 p.m., to explain the restoration work carried out on this historical facility. A visual opportunity will be available to the media for the first 20 minutes of the evening concert.
The Tent Room at Rideau Hall was constructed in 1876 as an indoor tennis court. Large receptions and dinners were also held there. During major events, fabric was draped on the otherwise bare walls and ceiling, giving the room the appearance of a tent. The room’s style remains unchanged to this day. It is used as a venue for official events and for arts exhibits. Members of the public can view to the Tent Room during guided tours.
