OTTAWA, June 5, 2010 - Canada's vibrant film and television production industry influences how the world sees us and shapes how we see ourselves. Our Government recognizes the major contribution of this industry to Canada's economy and employment. Through the Department of Canadian Heritage, our Government supports the film and television industry with programs and policies that encourage high-quality production, distribution, and promotion.
British Columbia is a strong film and television production centre in Canada. This success is thanks to the diversity of locations and the temperate climate, as well as a solid production infrastructure, the use of cutting-edge technology, and a talented network of expertise.
Each year, the Leo Awards celebrate artistic excellence in British Columbian film and television. They recognize and reward individual talent and shine a spotlight on the strength and sustainability of the industry. The awards honour achievements in 75 categories such as Feature-Length Drama, Dramatic Series, Documentary, Music Video, Direction, Screenwriting, Musical Score, and Costume Design.
On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to thank the Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Foundation of British Columbia, the organizers, and the 45 jurors for their work in cementing British Columbia's fine international reputation as a centre for film and television production excellence. Congratulations to the more than 600 nominees and to the recipients of Leo Awards for 2010.
