GATINEAU, Quebec, June 23, 2010 – Following the confirmation of tremors that were felt in Central Canada, Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) wishes to inform the public and federal government employees that PWGSC has immediately taken a number of precautionary measures to ensure health and safety of the population in the area affected by the earthquake.
PWGSC has put in place the necessary actions and measures to respond effectively by ensuring that:
- all buildings have had a visual inspection completed;
- all building tenants are advised once we have approved each building for use;
In addition, a visual inspection of all bridges and dams has been completed.
Our Structural Engineering Centre of Expertise has advised that given the magnitude of the earthquake, they do not expect any significant structural damage to our assets. Any deficiencies detected during these inspections will be reported to our centre of expertise for assessment by structural engineers where warranted.
