On Monday, May 31, 2010, the Toronto Police Service issued a news release concerning food tampering.
It was reported that:
- since May 2010, police have been investigating three separate food tampering cases involving Piller's Polish Sausage,
- customers, after purchasing the item, located a needle embedded in a sausage,
- two packages were purchased at the No Frills store at 372 Pacific Avenue and one at 2187 Bloor Street West.

On Tuesday, June 1, 2010, police were advised of two new cases of food tampering.
It is reported that:
- on Thursday, May 27, 2010, a customer purchased a Pillers Kielbasa package at the No Frills store at 900 Dufferin Street,
- the customer later discovered a needle embedded in the kielbasa.
It is also reported that:
- on Thursday, May 27, 2010, a customer purchased a Piller's Turkey Kielbasa package at the Price Chopper at 2440 Dundas Street West,
- the customer later discovered a needle embedded in the kielbasa.
The public is requested to check the packaging of all food products thoroughly for signs of tampering.
If you have reason to suspect that a meat product has been tampered with, you are requested to retain the product, packaging and any receipt. You are also requested to contact your local police.
