Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced today that, on his recommendation, Her Majesty The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of David L. Johnston as the next Governor General of Canada. Mr. Johnston will serve in succession to the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean.
The installation of Mr. Johnston will occur on October 1, 2010, in the Senate Chamber.
