PETAWAWA, Ont. – General Walter Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff, presented 36 insignia for Mention in Dispatches, 16 Chief of the Defence Staff Commendations, and one Canadian Forces (CF) Unit Commendation, during a ceremony today at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Petawawa. Recipients from across Canada were acknowledged for their bravery, exemplary actions, and commitment to service within the CF.
"The men and women of the Canadian Forces exemplify the best of what this country has to offer," said the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence. "Today's recipients are a shining example of the outstanding courage and commitment Canadian Forces members demonstrate at home and abroad to keep all Canadians safe."
"The individuals being recognized today have demonstrated courage, selflessness, and perseverance during the most demanding of situations," said General Natynczyk. "Their dedication is a source of inspiration, and I am honoured to present these awards today."
A Mention in Dispatches is a national honour awarded to CF members for valiant conduct, devotion to duty, or other distinguished service. Recipients are entitled to wear a bronze oak leaf on the appropriate campaign or service medal ribbon.
The CDS Commendation recognizes deeds or activities of a CF member beyond the demands of normal duty. The CF Unit Commendation is a group award created to recognize distinguished service by a military unit.
