The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance and Tilly O’Neill-Gordon, Member of Parliament for Miramichi today announced that the Government of Canada is prepared to invest in the development of a new multifunctional air services facility in the community of Miramichi. The Minister was accompanied by members of the local airport commission and community leaders.
“Our Government is pleased to support this valuable local initiative,” said Minister Flaherty. “Our investment will help the community capitalize on new opportunities for growth; add value to local resources; and enhance the Miramichi region’s capacity to create jobs and generate long-term economic opportunities for the area.”
The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund (ICF) intends to provide a $1.75 million contribution to the project. Federal financial support for the project is conditional on the Airport Commission meeting all applicable eligibility and approval requirements outlined in the contract.
“Our government is investing in Miramichi’s future by creating jobs and strengthening the local economy,” said MP Tilly O’Neill-Gordon. “Our investment in the new multifunctional air services facility will help attract investment to the region.”
The new two-storey, 24,000 square foot energy efficient multifunctional air services building will provide facilities for the development of new business opportunities for Miramichi such as a flight training centre.
“The Miramichi Airport Commission is very pleased with today’s federal government announcement towards our new multi-functional air services facility,” said Thomas Linkletter, Chairman of the Miramichi Airport Commission. “MP Tilly O’Neill-Gordon has worked diligently over the past year to see this project move forward. We thank her for her trust and commitment as we endeavor to create new opportunities and stimulate the Miramichi economy.”

The project involves the construction of a two-storey structure of approximately 24,000 square feet. The facility will house flight services operations and help the community capitalize on new opportunities for growth. The Government of Canada, through ACOA, intends to invest $1.75 million in the project conditional on the Airport Commission’s meeting all contractual requirements.
