The Pleasantview Community League is moving forward with enhancements to its playing courts thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“Through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, our Government is pleased to invest in projects that are creating economic stimulus, while also promoting physical activity through increased recreational opportunities,” said the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Member of Parliament for Edmonton – Spruce Grove, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
Two tennis courts and a multi-purpose court will be resurfaced as a result of this project. The multi-purpose court will also receive basketball hoops. The resurfaced courts will offer users improved playing conditions and are expected to contribute to a healthier community by encouraging increased participation in recreational activities.
Federal funding of $22,355 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“We are extremely grateful that the Government of Canada took interest in our project, as we are committed to maintaining our reputation of providing quality recreational facilities to both our league members and the local public,” said Dwayne Van Straten, Grants Coordinator for the Pleasantview Community League.
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. In total, Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) has approved 718 RInC projects that will use all of the funding available in the West. These projects are helping provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global downturn while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
