CCOHS president recognized for environment, health and safety leadership
Hamilton, ON (August 4, 2010) – This past June S. Len Hong, Chief Executive Officer and President of the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS), was named one of the 50 most influential environment, health and safety leaders in the world by EHS Today. Every person on the list – through their advocacy, teaching, research, mentoring, legislating, litigating or rulemaking – plays a role in steering the course of environment, health and safety.
"I am very honoured to be in the company of my fellow recipients and I am very proud of the work each recipient does every day in the realm of environment, health and safety," said Hong. "We all have different paths, and yet work towards the same goal of healthier workplaces for everyone."
Hong has worked in the field of workplace health and safety since starting with Stelco Steel as an industrial hygienist in 1980. He then became director of Environment, Health and Safety at McMaster University in 1987 before joining CCOHS in 1997.
Hong has led CCOHS to expand the scope and quantity of free workplace health and safety information to encompass a wide range of considerations including both physical health and safety and expanding coverage of work-related psychosocial and mental health as well. CCOHS is Canada's national centre for workplace health and safety and in many cases a world leader in the dissemination of information and good practices in understanding and improving occupational health and safety practices.
