CHARLOTTETOWN, August 7, 2010 - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding for 37 arts, culture and heritage projects during a visit to the Confederation Centre of the Arts, in the presence of community representatives.
The funding will support a wide range of projects, including the Indian River Festival, the Harbourfront Theatre, the King's Playhouse, and many others.
"A community's spirit and vitality depend in large part on arts and culture. The funding we are announcing today will benefit the entire province through the many economic and social spin-offs that will result," said Minister Moore. "Congratulations to this magnificent province for the many cultural projects it has put together for the pleasure of its citizens and many visitors."
The Government of Canada has provided funding totalling $704,272 under five programs of the Department of Canadian Heritage: the Canada Arts Presentation Fund, the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, the Canada Cultural Investment Fund (Endowment Incentives component), the Cultural Development Fund component of the Official-Language Support programs, and the Museums Assistance Program.
