HALIFAX, August 9, 2010 - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding for 21 arts, culture and heritage projects in the Halifax Regional Municipality and area. Minister Moore made the announcement at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia during the International Busker Festival, in the presence of community representatives.
The funding is intended to support a wide range of projects, including the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the International Busker Festival, Symphony Nova Scotia Foundation, the Halifax Jazz Festival and many others.
"Arts and culture are often the very soul of a municipality. The Halifax Regional Municipality and area is living proof of that with its many art galleries, museums, architectural sites, and live performances," said Minister Moore. "By investing in cultural and artistic projects, our Government is proud to encourage this creativity so that residents and visitors can enjoy an even richer and more vibrant quality of life."
The Government of Canada has provided funding totalling $1,135,502 under five programs of the Department of Canadian Heritage: the
Canada Arts Presentation Fund , the
Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, the
Canada Cultural Investment Fund (Endowment Incentives component), and the

The Canada Arts Presentation Fund is designed to give Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals and performances, and other artistic experiences.

The Endowment Incentives component encourages Canadians to donate to professional arts organizations. This year, the Government of Canada is providing 71 cents for every dollar donated by the private sector.
