CARLETON-SUR-MER, Quebec, August 31, 2010 - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding to Maximum 90 for its annual program of activities, as well as the 10th edition of its La Virée festival.
"Maximum 90 and its La Virée festival certainly know how to blend tradition and innovation, artistic experiences and educational activities; they are truly avant-garde in their field," said Minister Moore. "The Government of Canada is pleased to support this organization, which showcases talent from the Gaspé region and beyond and presents an event that promotes the economic growth of this part of the country, to the benefit of the entire population."
Maximum 90 is a multi-disciplinary arts presenter in Carleton-sur-Mer, in the Gaspé region that provides a diverse program of activities divided into two components. The first component includes indoor presentations that began on April 1, 2010, and continue until March 31, 2011. The second component involves the La Virée festival, which will take place from October 8 to 10, 2010. In all, close to 30 shows featuring song, music, theatre, variety, and dance, and showcasing artists from Canada and abroad, will be presented as part of the 2010 programming. The La Virée festival seeks to offer the public traditional music and dance performances, as well as presentations of storytelling and legends. The organization also holds around 10 public education and development activities every year.
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $35,000 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
