VICTORIA, August 5, 2010 - The Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport) and Member of Parliament (Saanich-Gulf Islands), today announced funding for Swimming Canada in support of the 2010 Nations Cup, which is taking place on August 5 and 6 in Victoria, British Columbia.
"The Government of Canada is proud to support the 2010 Nations Cup, which will showcase our up-and-coming swimmers," said Minister of State Lunn. "By bringing together swimmers from Canada, Australia, and France, this event provides participants and spectators alike with an outstanding opportunity to enjoy elite swimming competitions. This international event will allow many of these young athletes to hone their skills as they set their sights on London in 2012."

"The 2010 Nations Cup will provide an opportunity for our next wave of Olympians to compete against some of the best athletes in the world and gain valuable experience as they embark on the road to London."
The 2010 Nations Cup Canada is a swimming event that will see Canada host France and Australia over two days of competition at Saanich Commonwealth Place. The meet will feature many of Canada's Olympic hopefuls.
The Government of Canada believes that participation in sport is part of a healthy lifestyle and contributes to a healthy society. Hosting international sport events gives Canada the opportunity to showcase our country to athletes and spectators from all over the world.
The Government of Canada is the single largest contributor to sport in Canada and supports participation and excellence from the playground to the podium. Funding of $50,000 was provided to Swimming Canada in support of the 2010 Nations Cup through Sport Canada's Hosting Program.
