Key Infrastructure Projects Completed in Hastings Highlands; Others Underway
News Release
Hastings Highlands, Ontario, August 21, 2010 – Hastings Highlands residents have a new recreational centre and an upgraded sports field thanks to a partnership between the governments of Canada and Ontario and the municipality.
Daryl Kramp, Member of Parliament for Prince Edward-Hastings; the Honourable Leona Dombrowsky, Member of Provincial Parliament for Prince Edward-Hastings; and his Worship Ronald J. Emond, Mayor of Hasting Highlands, celebrated the official opening of the Hastings Highlands Recreational and Cultural Facility and of the Maynooth Sports Field. At the same time, the dignitaries highlighted construction on Musclow Greenview and Peterson roads.
“These projects will benefit families throughout Hastings Highlands,” said MP Kramp, on behalf of Canada’s Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Chuck Strahl. “The new recreational and cultural facility is especially valuable as it will centralize municipal functions, provide better access to public library services for residents, and give Maynooth Public School a much needed gymnasium.”
“Through its five-year Open Ontario plan, the McGuinty government is committed to building stronger and more successful rural communities by investing in key public infrastructure projects,” said MPP Dombrowsky. “These important projects in Hastings Highlands will enable residents to lead healthy, more active lives and provide safer transportation networks.”
“These improvements will not only benefit the citizens of Maynooth and surrounding area, but will also help boost our local economy,” said Mayor Emond. “Thanks to our provincial and federal partners for recognizing how important local infrastructure projects are to the health and vitality of our community.”
The Government of Canada’s contribution comes from Canada’s Economic Action Plan, which provides approximately $12 billion over two years to modernize a broad range of infrastructure. These investments are helping to create and maintain jobs across Canada for the benefit of all Canadians, and will ensure the country emerges from the economic downturn with a more modern and greener infrastructure.
The Province of Ontario's contribution comes from the 2009 provincial budget. Ontario's two-year, $32.5-billon investment will support more than 300,000 jobs and strengthen Ontario's economy.
Since 2007, the governments of Canada and Ontario have committed more than $13 billion in funding to more than 6,400 infrastructure projects across the province to stimulate the economy and create jobs.
