OTTAWA, August 13, 2010 - I am pleased to extend my greetings to everyone celebrating National Acadian Day.
Every year on August 15, people of all ages come together to highlight their pride in being part of a community with a rich past and promising future. This is also an ideal time for all Canadians, Francophones, and Francophiles to celebrate the Acadian community's contribution to the cultural, social, and economic development of our country.
The extraordinary vitality of the Acadians is shown through their culture, their dynamism, and their spirit of solidarity. Their history is filled with major achievements that justly support their reputation and have helped make our country a place that is both united and diverse. Thanks to their hard work and determination, the Acadian people have forged a special place for themselves in Canada and in the world with regard to the preservation of their language and culture.
On this day of celebration, I invite Canadians to applaud the historic accomplishments of the extended Acadian family, which is working to prepare for its own future, as well as that of generations to come. On behalf of the Government of Canada, I wish all Acadians a memorable celebration.
