September 24, 2010: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is closely following an investigation by U.S. authorities into possible contamination of Similac® Brand Powder Infant Formulas by beetles in the United States.
The CFIA is not aware of any product being imported into Canada. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product in Canada.
The CFIA is working closely with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on this matter. The CFIA will take all necessary steps to protect the safety of the Canadian food supply should it be necessary.
Canadians travelling to the U.S. or who purchase food in the U.S. should consult the United States Food and Drug Administration website for the further information.
