Altona, Manitoba
The Town of Altona is moving forward with expansion plans for its recreational trail system thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“Investing in these trails will create jobs right here in Altona, while providing our community with more recreational opportunities to enjoy for many years to come,” said MP Candice Hoeppner, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
The Town of Altona will use this funding to construct new recreation trails for the area.
Funding of $62,666 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“The Town of Altona appreciates the support of the federal government through Western Economic Diversification Canada, regarding their financial assistance to continue working on the Town’s Trail System,” said Mayor Melvin Klassen. “We have now received contributions for two projects through the RInC program, which will truly benefit the lifestyles of the residents of the Town of Altona. Without the support from MP Hoeppner the construction of this trail would not have been possible in 2010.”
The new Pioneer and Elmcrest Trails will be constructed and connected to an existing trail system that meets the Trans Canada Trail. This project will enhance tourism opportunities for the area and provide increased access to physical activity year-round.
The RInC program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. In total, WD has approved 718 RInC projects that will use all of the funding available in the West. These projects are helping provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
