BAYFIELD, New Brunswick, September 11, 2010 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Carolyn Stewart Olsen, Senator (New Brunswick), today announced funding for the Cape Jourimain Nature Centre.
The funding will enable this volunteer-run centre to present the 7th annual EcoArts Festival on September 11 and 12, 2010, at its beautiful rural location in Bayfield, New Brunswick. The EcoArts Festival will feature art demonstrations and workshops aimed at creating original and environmentally sensitive works of art.
"Our Government is pleased to support the important work of the Cape Jourimain Nature Centre," said Minister Moore. "Events like the EcoArts Festival are beneficial to the environment and to the tourism industry and therefore to the economy. Tourists, residents, and visitors of all ages cannot help but learn about art and the outdoors and about how we must protect both."
"It's a wonderful event about art, nature, and history," said Senator Stewart Olsen. "During this festival, we will have a chance to celebrate the natural gifts of this region and learn how we can help conserve them. The EcoArts Festival contributes greatly to our understanding of natural history, the connection between art and science, and the resulting benefits to our communities."
"An annual event held at the Cape Jourimain Nature Centre, the EcoArts Festival strives to encourage artists to explore nature and environmental issues through their art," said Roland Chiasson, Manager of Education and Outreach at the Centre. "Artists express their creativity both in their way of looking at and in their relationship with nature. They learn how to be more sensitive to the vulnerability of our environment. We wish to thank the Government of Canada for this support."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $2,700 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
