KIPLING, Saskatchewan, September 13, 2010 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Ed Komarnicki, Member of Parliament (Souris-Moose Mountain), today announced funding for the Kipling & District Lions Club for the 100th anniversary of the founding of Kipling.
To celebrate this anniversary, the Kipling & District Lions Club has undertaken the renovation and rejuvenation of Bell Park, the central and main park in the town of Kipling. This includes replacing the poplar trees; installing shrubs and flower beds, benches, lighting, bollards, and garbage cans; replacing the bell-shaped walkway; and making the path wheelchair accessible.
"Our Government recognizes the importance of commemorative events and festivals that celebrate our shared Canadian identity and our rich cultural and historical heritage," said Minister Moore. "By supporting these events, we are fulfilling our commitment to strengthening communities across the country."
"Bell Park is at the heart of the community of Kipling," said M.P. Ed Komarnicki. "Its renovation and rejuvenation is a great way to highlight Kipling's centennial and to bring people of all ages and backgrounds together to foster community pride and celebrate local history and heritage."
"We greatly appreciate the support towards the renovation of Bell Park at this historic time in the town of Kipling. By providing grants to community non-profit organizations such as the Lions, the Government of Canada aids us in creating an enjoyable and vibrant meeting place while encouraging volunteer participation and maximizing the value of grant dollars," said Lions Member Joe Widdup, Project Co-ordinator.
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $24,000 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
