(No. 300 - September 17, 2010 - 11:15 a.m. ET) The Honourable Peter Kent, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas), today extended Canada’s congratulations to the people of Chile as they mark the bicentennial of their country’s independence.
“On behalf of all Canadians and the Government of Canada, it is my great privilege to congratulate the people of Chile on the significant occasion of their 200th anniversary,” said Minister of State Kent. “Chile’s achievements as a country are remarkable, and its ability to overcome challenges such as February’s earthquake is impressive.
“We commend Chile for its commitment to freedom, equality and democracy—values that Canada shares with Chile—and its strong, open economy, a model for other nations. Relations between Canada and Chile are long-standing, strong and growing. We value Chile as a hemispheric, multilateral and commercial partner. We look forward to ever-closer relations in the years to come, and wish Chile every success for the future.”
