OTTAWA—Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will receive the credentials of two high commissioners and six ambassadors on Thursday, September 23, 2010, at 2:30 p.m., at Rideau Hall. Throughout her mandate, the Governor General has accredited 186 ambassadors and high commissioners as their country’s representative in Canada.
During this ceremony, the Governor General will receive the following heads of diplomatic missions:
His Excellency John Raymond Bassett
Ambassador-designate of Ireland
Her Excellency Sofia Lastenia Cerrato Rodriguez
Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Honduras
His Excellency Alex Crescent Massinda
High commissioner-designate of the United Republic of Tanzania
His Excellency Zoran Veljic
Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Serbia
His Excellency Kaoru Ishikawa
Ambassador-designate of Japan
His Excellency Wael Ahmed Kamal Aboul Magd
Ambassador-designate of the Arab Republic of Egypt
His Excellency Teppo Tauriainen
Ambassador-designate of the Kingdom of Sweden
Her Excellency Dr. ‘Mathabo Tsepa
High commissioner-designate of the Kingdom of Lesotho
Upon their arrival in Canada as new representatives of their country, and before they can assume office, ambassadors and high commissioners must be formally received by the governor general of Canada. Credentials are the formal documents by which new heads of diplomatic missions are introduced by their head of State.
Currently, there are more than 130 heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Canada. Approximately 10 presentations of credentials are held each year.

Members of the media wishing to cover the ceremony are asked to confirm their attendance in advance with the Rideau Hall Press Office, and must arrive at the Princess Anne Entrance no later than 2:15 p.m.
