"On this day, I congratulate the people of China on the 61st anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic, and I salute the long-standing and warm friendship between our two nations. This year, we also mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries.
"Diplomatic links are only one aspect of our relationship, the strengths of which lie in the cultural bond between our peoples, as well as our important economic ties.
"The influence of Chinese culture in Canada is profound, and it is infused into the fabric of our large and diverse country. Canada and China remain strong commercial partners, and we look forward to further deepening this relationship."
