Saint-Siméon, Quebec, October 28, 2010 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced that the Municipality of Saint-Siméon has been granted $325,000 in non-repayable funding through the Community Diversification program for the recreational tourism development of the Port-au-Persil discovery centre in the Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park.
This project, which includes the construction of a hospitality and service pavilion, the enhancement of discovery and interpretation trails and the laying out of parking areas, is part of the ongoing efforts to conserve and promote the Marine Park.
"Charlevoix, a jewel in the crown of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves, is one of Canada's most beautiful tourist destinations. This Port-au-Persil discovery centre project is sure to help better showcase the breathtaking beauty of this area of the Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park," noted Minister of State Lebel.
This project of the Municipality of Saint-Siméon is aimed at better accommodating the thousands of people who come each year to visit this area of the Marine Park. Along with various other initiatives under way, including those being carried out by Groupe Le Massif, this project promises to bolster the drawing power of Charlevoix and raise its standing as a choice tourist destination.
