The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, today announced government funding that will help stimulate the economy of Powerview-Pine Falls.
"In this, the second and final year of the Economic Action Plan, our Government is committed to projects like this that create immediate jobs and help weather the global economic downturn," said Minister Toews.
Federal funding in the amount of $584,675 will be used to process an otherwise unusable inventory of harvested jack pine at Tembec's Pine Falls paper mill. This project will provide employment opportunities for local contractors processing and delivering the wood products.
Federal funding is being provided through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan.
CAF supports the most affected western Canadian communities, such as those that are heavily reliant on resource-based industries. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the fund in the four western provinces.
