A partnership of over $4.2 million
Quebec City, Quebec, October 1, 2010 – A federal-provincial-municipal partnership will enable hundreds of young people in the La Cité–Limoilou Borough to practice football or soccer on a brand new synthetic turf-covered field at the Patro Roc-Amadour.
The announcement was made today by Sylvie Boucher, Member of Parliament for Beauport–Limoilou, together with André Drolet, Member of the National Assembly for Jean-Lesage, on behalf of Laurent Lessard, Minister of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy and Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, François Picard, Vice-President of the Executive Committee of the City of Quebec and Michel Dallaire, First Vice-President of the Patro Roc-Amadour Board of Directors.
"The Patro Roc-Amadour community centre does outstanding work to enrich the lives of young people in the La Cité–Limoilou Borough by helping them to achieve their full potential," stated Ms. Boucher on behalf of the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. "Our contribution to the community centre's expansion demonstrates the Government of Canada's commitment to improve the quality of life of people here and to contribute to the region's future economic development by stimulating job creation and implementing projects that will have a positive impact on Quebec City."
"The sustainability of infrastructure is the maintenance and upgrading of these in a sustainable development perspective. With the Quebec infrastructure plan, le Plan québécois des infrastructures, we are ensuring that no more maintenance of public infrastructure in Quebec be delayed. In 15 years, Quebec will have paid the cumulative deficit of maintaining its public infrastructure," stated MNA André Drolet.
The joint funding contribution from the governments of Canada and Quebec amounts to more than $2.8 million. With a contribution of more than $1.4 million from the City of Quebec, a total of more than $4.2 million will be used to carry out the work. Project activities include the construction of a synthetic turf-covered football and soccer field, and bringing the current building up to standard.
"We are happy to see the realization of this project for the youth of Limoilou," said Mr. François Picard, Vice-President of the Executive Committee of the City of Quebec. This investment will finally fill a significant gap in quality soccer infrastructure in this area of the city."

This initiative will enable thousands of young inner city of Quebec to practice their favorite sport on quality infrastructure," said Clément Lemieux, Director General of Patro Roc-Amadour.
The Government of Canada's contribution of just over $1.4 million comes from the $4-billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, set up under Canada's Economic Action Plan, which has been used to provide funding for nearly 4,000 infrastructure projects across Canada. The Government of Canada has set aside up to $936 million of this Fund for projects in Quebec.
The Government of Quebec contribution of over $1.4 million is part of the Quebec infrastructure plan, le Plan québécois des infrastructures, which received additional funding in January 2009 and now includes nearly $42 billion for numerous infrastructure renewal projects in Quebec over the next five years.
