The Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) will provide a total of $88,646 to the Baffin Regional Chamber of Commerce (BRCC). This funding is to create a workshop and guide that will increase trade show knowledge and create opportunities for Nunavut businesses.
Trade shows provide Northern businesses with important opportunities to build partnerships, and to grow and prosper. The BRCC has developed a trade show preparation workshop and guide to help businesses take advantage of the many trade show opportunities in Nunavut. This initiative will train economic development officers, who will share their knowledge with businesses in their communities. With this increased knowledge, small businesses will be better prepared to participate in trade shows. The workshop will be delivered during Nunavut Economic Developers Association’s Annual General Conference, which takes place in Baker Lake from November 15 - 22, 2010.
The BRCC is a non-profit organization made up of businesses, professionals, government representatives and community groups. It aims to support the business community of Baffin and Nunavut by working with community, territorial and regional stakeholders to stimulate and support economic development opportunities.
The federal investment in this program is made possible through CanNor’s Strategic Investments in Northern Economic Development (SINED) program, which focuses on long-term economic growth, economic diversification and capacity building in all three territories.
SINED is one of several economic development programs within CanNor, which is responsible for coordinating and delivering Canada’s economic development across the North, and for related policy development, research and advocacy.
