The Government of Canada is investing $53,000 to implement Phase 2 of a marketing plan to help promote Grand-Pré National Historic Site.
“Our Government is pleased to invest in this important Canadian, Nova Scotian and Acadian treasure,” said the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway. “The goal of the initiative is to increase visitation at Grand-Pré, which will in turn benefit tourism operators throughout the area, and increase awareness of Nova Scotia’s Acadian heritage.”
La Société Promotion Grand-Pré is a non-profit organization that helps promote and celebrate Acadian culture and history related to Grand Pré. Support from the Government of Canada will help the Société implement Phase 2 of its three-year marketing program.
“Our Government is proud to support the Société Promotion Grand-Pré in promoting Acadian history and culture,” said the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages. “This promotional work is important, and the Department of Canadian Heritage’s contribution to a theatre play and to communications activities will help increase understanding of early Acadian life in Nova Scotia.”
“Nova Scotia’s success as a destination for visitors depends on our ability to promote innovative experiences not available anywhere else,” said Percy Paris, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Heritage and Economic and Rural Development for Nova Scotia. “We are happy to support the efforts to market and promote Grand Pre because that supports our goal of growing the province’s economy by creating good jobs.”
Government of Canada support for this project involves the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency ($43,000), and Canadian Heritage ($10,000). The Province of Nova Scotia has supported the project through the departments of Tourism, Culture and Heritage ($18,500), and Economic and Rural Development ($7,700).
“In this second year of a three-year plan of funding by the Government of Canada and other funding partners for the promotion and marketing of Grand-Pré National Historic Site, the Société is pleased to be able to continue reaching key audiences to increase visitation,” said Stan Surette, President, Société Promotion Grand-Pré.
Grand-Pré National Historic Site of Canada commemorates Grand-Pré area as a centre of Acadian settlement from 1682 to 1755 and acknowledges the Deportation of the Acadians, which began in 1755 and continued until 1762.
