Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Saskatoon Prairieland Park has officially opened its doors to larger and more complex conventions and trade shows. The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, joined Prairieland Park CEO Mark Regier to formally announce the completion of the recently-renovated trade and convention centre.
“Through the Economic Action Plan, our Government is committed to creating jobs and opportunity, while revitalizing our communities,” said Minister Yelich. “These important upgrades to Prairieland Park mean that Saskatoon can play host to even more conventions and trade shows, attracting visitors from around the world.”
Saskatoon Prairieland Park Corporation renovated Halls A and B, upgrading the facilities to attract national and international conventions with more than 1,600 participants. Western Economic Diversification Canada provided federal funding of $3 million through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF), with additional funding of $1,135,260 provided by Prairieland Park.
“Prairieland Park is honoured to receive funding from the Government of Canada through the Community Adjustment Fund. The productive use of this funding to renovate our facilities will generate lasting benefits for our community,” said Chief Executive Officer, Mark Regier.
Upgrades to the halls included demolishing existing walls and installing new energy efficient power and lighting fixtures; new air and heating systems; new walls, ceilings and flooring; new audio and visual systems; and new washrooms.
The Community Adjustment Fund is a two-year, $1 billion nation-wide economic stimulus measure announced as part of the Government of Canada's Economic Action Plan. It provides $306 million in assistance over two years to western Canadian communities hardest hit by the current economic slowdown.
CAF is intended to provide an economic stimulus to lessen the short-term impacts of the economic downturn by creating and maintaining jobs, and by addressing challenges facing industries or communities under going restructuring.
