The annual Tourism Atlantic Technology Award was presented last night to Authentic Seacoast Resorts for their innovative use of social media to increase visitation to their resort and Nova Scotia as a whole.
"Our government understands the significant role tourism plays in the Atlantic Canadian economy," said the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway. "We recognize the importance of the innovative use of technology by operators to grow their business."
Authentic Seacoast Resorts is an international leader in travel and tourism social media and has been recognized as a benchmark organization for best practices. Through its use of Twitter, Facebook and the development of an interactive website, the resort has contributed to a strong presence in social media channels.
"We are thrilled to be recognized within Nova Scotia for our efforts to reach visitors through social media," said Glynn Williams, Proprietor of the Authentic Seacoast Resorts. "We want our online presence to be an extension of the warm Maritime hospitality people receive when they visit our properties and our communities on the Authentic Seacoast."
ACOA created the Tourism Atlantic Technology Award in 2004 to recognize one tourism operator in each Atlantic province for his or her innovation and the strategic use of technology to benefit both and individual business and the wider tourism industry.
The award was presented at the Crystal Tourism Award of Excellence Gala Dinner, which is the closing event of the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia's annual conference.
The Government of Canada, through ACOA, supports the development of a strong tourism sector in Atlantic Canada through a pan-Atlantic approach that emphasizes research, product development and marketing.
